Multi-Agency Operation at Fairmount Park Results in 17 Arrests and Site Cleanup
RIVERSIDE, CA—A coordinated public safety operation at Fairmount Park led to 17 arrests and the removal of illegal encampments on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026.
The multi-agency effort involved the Riverside Public Safety and Engagement Team, Riverside Police Department, Riverside Code Enforcement, Riverside County Department of Animal Services, and Parks and Neighborhood Specialists. Personnel focused on encampments located near the park’s playground and carousel, as well as the area behind the Armory.
During the enforcement phase, officers contacted occupants and subsequently took 17 individuals into custody. The arrests comprised seven felonies and 10 misdemeanors for offenses including illegal camping, outstanding warrants, probation violations, and trespassing.
Fourteen of those arrested were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. Two individuals received citations before being transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation, and one person was cited and released at the scene.
Following the law enforcement action, Code Enforcement personnel conducted a site cleanup, removing encampment structures, abandoned items, refuse, and drug paraphernalia from the park grounds.
City agencies indicated that joint enforcement, outreach, and property maintenance efforts will continue in an ongoing effort to maintain public safety and accessibility across local parks.
