VISALIA, CA — An overnight traffic stop attempt led to a short vehicular pursuit and the arrest of a 26-year-old driver on driving under the influence and evasion charges early Wednesday morning.

Just after 1:00 a.m. on September 2, 2026, a Visalia Police Department officer observed a vehicle swerving near the intersection of Mineral King Avenue and Conyer Street. When the officer attempted to perform a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield, initiating a brief pursuit.

The vehicle came to a stop near Main Street and Turner Street shortly thereafter.

Officers made contact with the driver, identified as Alyssa Diaz, 26, and determined she was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Officers placed Diaz into custody without further incident.

Diaz was transported and booked into jail on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol (VC 23152) and evading a peace officer in a vehicle (VC 2800.1).
