CHP Traffic Stop on Highway 1: Driver Arrested for Drug-Impaired Driving

SANTA CRUZ, CA — An officer with the Santa Cruz Division of the California Highway Patrol recently arrested a man for driving under the influence of drugs following a routine traffic stop on Highway 1.

Officers initiated the traffic enforcement stop after observing a moving violation on the highway. Upon contacting the driver, officers determined the individual was operating the vehicle while impaired by drugs and subsequently placed them under arrest for DUI.

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drug-impaired driving represents a persistent traffic safety concern, with national studies indicating a significant rise in drivers testing positive for impairing substances such as THC in recent years. Law enforcement agencies continue targeted traffic enforcement along state routes to identify and remove impaired drivers from roadways.
