Chula Vista Police Investigate Fatal August 15 Shooting on Steiner Drive
CHULA VISTA, CA — The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on August 15th and resulted in one fatality and injured another individual in Chula Vista.
At approximately 8:47 p.m. on August 15, 2026, CVPD Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting approximately six to nine gunshots near Paseo Ladera and Steiner Drive, followed by the sound of two vehicles speeding away from the location.
A short time later, a local hospital informed CVPD Dispatch that two gunshot victims had arrived for treatment. A 28-year-old female resident of Chula Vista suffered a single gunshot wound and subsequently died from her injuries. A 36-year-old male resident of Chula Vista sustained multiple gunshot wounds and remains hospitalized in stable condition. The identity of both individuals is being withheld pending notifications.
According to the surviving victim, he and the female victim pulled to the curb in the 1300 block of Steiner Drive near Higgins Street when another vehicle stopped alongside them. An individual inside the second vehicle fired multiple rounds into the victims’ car before the male victim drove themselves to the hospital.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
