Camarillo Man Arrested on Child Pornography Allegations

CAMARILLO, CA  — June 22nd 2026 — A Camarillo man is in custody on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

James Castaneda, 34, of Camarillo was arrested at his home on the
morning of June 18 following an investigation into his alleged possession and
distribution of child  pornography.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Cmdr. Eric Tennessen,
the case began after detectives received “information from a CyberTip submitted by the
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.” During the investigation,
detectives determined Castaneda had “received and distributed child sexual abuse
material through multiple social media sites.”

Castaneda was contacted near his residence at about 9:30 a.m. and was taken into
custody “without incident” by a team of investigators and deputies assigned to the
VCSD Major Crimes Bureau and the Southern California High Tech Task Force.

He was transported to the Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges
involving the possession and distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Materials.

Tennessen indicated that “there may be victims who knew Castaneda” and urged any
member of the public with “information regarding this case” to contact the VCSD
Major Crimes Unit at 805-384-4728.

Castaneda remains in custody with his bail set at $500,000.
