Suspect Arrested Following Armed Incident and Shelter-in-Place Order in Nice
NICE, CA — On June 18, 2026, at approximately 8:00 AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of an individual making threats with a firearm at the Pallesens Apartment Complex near Collier Avenue and Highway 20 in Nice.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies heard gunshots and observed a suspect fleeing into the apartment complex and toward an adjacent field. Law enforcement personnel issued a shelter-in-place notice for residents in the immediate area and established a perimeter to search for the individual, who was described as a 21-year-old white male wearing grey sweatpants and no shirt.
Deputies subsequently located and apprehended Richard Suggs, Jr., of Nice, without further incident. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Authorities believe the recovered weapon matches a firearm reported stolen in a recent theft investigation in which Suggs is also a suspect.
Suggs was transported to the Hill Road Correctional Facility and booked on charges including shooting at an inhabited dwelling, felony assault, and attempted murder. A review of public records indicates that this is not Suggs’ first encounter with law enforcement, as he has been arrested numerous times on various charges prior to this incident. The shelter-in-place order was lifted at approximately 9:00 AM following the arrest.
The California Highway Patrol and CAL FIRE Law Enforcement assisted the Lake County Sheriff’s Office during the response. The investigation remains ongoing.
