Two Arrested for Identity Theft and Conspiracy After Vehicle Theft Investigation

IRVINE, CA – The Irvine Police Department arrested two individuals following an investigation into a fraud report initiated at the Irvine Spectrum.

The investigation began after a victim received notifications regarding fraudulent charges on their credit cards. The victim subsequently discovered that the credit cards had been removed from a wallet left inside their vehicle.

Detectives tracked the suspects to an alternate park location in Orange County, where officers conducted surveillance on the individuals. During the operation, the suspects were observed attempting to locate additional victims. Upon contacting the individuals, law enforcement officers recovered a signal jammer, a device capable of disrupting keyless door lock systems.

The suspects have been identified as Sabastian Rodriguez, 46, of Cudahy, and Karen Gomez, 30, of Los Angeles. Both individuals were arrested on charges of identity theft and conspiracy. Following the incident, the police department issued a reminder to the public to verify that vehicle doors are fully locked and secure before walking away from a parked vehicle.
