Sonoma County Man Allegedly Caught with Illegal Firearms, including Ghost Gun, During Traffic Stop
SONOMA COUNTY, CA — “On June 9, 2026, at about 3:31 p.m., a Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Sonoma Valley area observed a vehicle run a red light at the intersection of Arnold Drive and Leveroni Road.
When the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield and fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle eventually stopped in a driveway in the 60 block of Temelec Circle.
The driver was identified as 28-year-old Jacob McDonald. During a search, deputies located a loaded, unserialized handgun concealed in McDonald’s waistband. The firearm was loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition and equipped with a threaded barrel.
A records check revealed McDonald was on probation with search terms. Deputies subsequently conducted a probation search of his residence, where they located a Remington .30-06 rifle, a Stoeger 12-gauge shotgun, and a 50-round drum magazine. Deputies also learned that two juveniles reside in the home.
This arrest highlights the work of Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies to keep our communities safe by identifying criminal activity, holding offenders accountable, and removing illegal firearms from our streets before they can be used to harm others.
McDonald was arrested on multiple misdemeanor traffic violations, felony possession of an assault weapon, and child cruelty charges. He was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility, where bail was set at $50,000.
McDonald later posted bail and was released from custody pending further court proceedings.
