SACRAMENTO, CA — “Deputies determined the suspect, who shot a man inside business on Howe Ave had fled the area prior to their arrival. Homicide Detectives responded and launched an extensive investigation.
Through the use of video surveillance and witness statements, detectives identified 28-year-old Xander Burnside as the suspect responsible for the shooting. Detectives subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for murder, and the Sacramento Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau immediately began searching for Burnside.
It began on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 11:20 a.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man shot inside the business located at 1050 Howe Ave. Deputies arrived on scene and located a 31-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until fire personnel arrived, however, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Just after noon June 9, detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau located Burnside in Pinole, CA, and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was booked on murder charges and is ineligible for bail.
Burnside has previously arrested on charges of grand theft, organized retail crime, assault and domestic violence.
