The investigation began after a resident informed dispatch that a neighbor had departed the campground at a high rate of speed while appearing to be under the influence of alcohol.

Law enforcement personnel located the suspect’s vehicle at the Pine Grove Market. Upon contacting the individual, deputies noted signs of intoxication, and a preliminary alcohol screening indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20%. Further records checks revealed the suspect had an outstanding felony warrant from Calaveras County for assault with a deadly weapon. Additionally, the suspect was found to be in violation of a release condition that prohibited the consumption of alcohol.

In a follow-up interview, the reporting party alleged that the suspect had charged at him earlier that day while operating a running chainsaw. Following this statement, deputies determined the evidence supported a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect was taken into custody and booked on charges including assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence, and the existing felony warrant.
