YUBA, CA – The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred on Flemming Way in Olivehurst. The deceased is 47-year-old Octavio Montano Navarro, a resident of the home where the incident took place.
Investigators have identified the suspect as 36-year-old David Lopez Martinez. According to detectives, Martinez and Navarro were acquaintances who lived in close proximity to one another. Findings from the investigation indicate that Martinez forcibly entered the residence and discharged a handgun multiple times, striking Navarro. Several family members, including small children, were inside the home during the shooting. While present, officials stated the family members were not the intended targets and did not sustain physical injuries.
Following the shooting, a SWAT team standoff occurred at a separate location on 9th Avenue in Olivehurst. Witnesses reported hearing loud noises during the operation, which the Sheriff’s Office confirmed were diversionary devices deployed by deputies and not gunfire.
Authorities stated there is currently no evidence to suggest the incident was gang-related. The motive remains under investigation, and a toxicology report for the suspect is pending. Investigators are reviewing whether the results will provide further context regarding the circumstances of the event.
