Arrest Made in 1994 Pacific Beach Cold Case Homicide
SAN DIEGO, CA – Detectives with the San Diego Police Department’s Cold Case Unit arrested a suspect on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in connection with the 1994 homicide of Clive Bland in Pacific Beach. The arrest follows a multi-decade investigation into the events of January 2, 1994, when officers first responded to reports in the 700 block of Tourmaline Street. Upon arrival, police discovered Bland deceased from stab wounds. A subsequent investigation identified a related crime scene on the beach near Tourmaline Surf Park.
While the case eventually became cold despite initial investigative efforts, multiple Cold Case investigators re-examined the evidence over the following years. Using Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy and other forensic techniques, authorities identified the suspect as 50-year-old Jeffry Brandenburg of Santa Cruz, California.
With the assistance of the Santa Cruz Police Department, Brandenburg was taken into custody without incident in the 100 block of Coral Street in Santa Cruz. He has since been transported to San Diego and booked for homicide. The San Diego Police Department conducted the investigation in coordination with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Individuals with information regarding this case are encouraged to contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
