HOLLISTER, CA — The Hollister Police Department arrested a 29-year-old male on March 16, 2026, following an investigation into the exploitation of a minor via the internet and cellular devices. The suspect, identified as Kalieb Benefield of Hollister, was booked into the San Benito County Jail for an alleged violation of Penal Code section 288.2(a)(1), which pertains to sending harmful matter to seduce a minor.
The investigation began on February 10, 2026, when the department was contacted by a representative of Child Safety Soldiers. This organization utilizes adult decoys who pose as children in online chat rooms and mobile applications to identify individuals engaging in illegal activities. According to police reports, Officer Zach Buzzetta initiated the case based on information provided by the group, which included a review of hundreds of text messages, photographs, phone call recordings, and online chat messages between the suspect and a minor decoy.
Working alongside Hollister Police Detectives, Officer Buzzetta determined that the communications contained inappropriate content, establishing probable cause for an arrest. On March 16, officers conducted a traffic stop on Benefield for an unrelated vehicle code violation. Detective Alejandro Gaeta responded to the scene, where Benefield was detained and subsequently taken into custody.
The Hollister Police Department has issued a recommendation for parents to discuss the risks of engaging with unknown individuals through online gaming, apps, and text messages. Officials also suggested that parents conduct random checks of their children’s electronic devices for inappropriate content. Due to the nature of the investigation, authorities stated it is possible that actual minors may have been in contact with Benefield. Anyone with additional information or who believes a minor was contacted by the suspect is encouraged to contact Officer Buzzetta at 831-636-4331.
