Fallbrook Resident Arrested Following Fatal Shooting on East Mission Road
FALLBROOK, CA — The San Diego Sheriff’s Office has announced an arrest in relation to a recent fatal shooting in the Fallbrook area. Deputies from the Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 3800 block of E. Mission Road on Monday, March 16, 2026. Upon arrival at approximately 8:00 p.m., law enforcement located two adult males with traumatic injuries. Although deputies and emergency medical personnel initiated lifesaving measures, one individual died at the scene from a gunshot wound. The second individual, who also sustained a gunshot wound, was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.
Following an investigation into the incident, which occurred after an argument, authorities arrested Michael Burke, 70, of Fallbrook. Burke has been booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of murder and attempted murder. The identities of both the deceased and the surviving victim are currently being withheld pending confirmation and the notification of next of kin.
Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives have assumed responsibility for the case and are currently interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Preliminary information suggests the shooting was an isolated incident, and officials stated there is no known threat to the community.
