BERKELEY, CA — A suspect in an Oakland home-invasion robbery was arrested on March 23,
thanks to an automated license plate reader alerted Berkeley police.
Javon Reed, 27, of Oakland remains in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail ineligible for release on bond.
“A Flock Safety license plate reader alerted officers to a stolen vehicle entering Berkeley city
limits,” Berkeley police said in a prepared statement.
“Officers located the vehicle near University Avenue and San Pablo Avenue. The driver was
identified as a primary suspect in an Oakland case involving gunfire during a residential
robbery.”
Berkeley officers recovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine,
along with jewelry linked to a March 12 robbery in Oakland.
An estimated $32,500 worth of jewelry was recovered including a gold Rolex watch, diamond bracelets, and heavy gold
chains.
Reed faces the following charges –
· Residential robbery
· Assault with a firearm
· Felon in possession of a firearm
· Possession of a stolen vehicle
Reed has prior conviction in 2019 for his role in a second-degree robbery in the Montclair
district of Oakland. Reed acted as a lookout during a robbery of a laptop computer at a
Starbucks coffeeshop.
The victim who chased the robber was dragged, run over the by the getaway vehicle, and died.
In addition, Reed has a prior arrest in San Francisco on his record for receiving stolen
property.
