Man Arrested on Multiple Charges Following Incident on School Street in Crescent Mills

CRESCENT MILLS, CA  — A 63-year-old man faces several criminal allegations following a law enforcement contact on March 15, 2026.

At approximately 6:26 PM, Plumas County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at School Street to address a report concerning animal control. During the site visit, authorities spotted an individual operating an all-terrain vehicle who matched the characteristics of a person sought on an active judicial warrant.

The operator was identified as Joe Stockton, a resident of Crescent Mills. Upon confirming his identity, deputies initiated an arrest based on the standing warrant. A subsequent search of Stockton led to the discovery of a loaded handgun along with substances believed to be methamphetamine and associated drug equipment.

Official documentation indicates that Stockton failed to comply with officers during the search process. As a result, the Sheriff’s Office is seeking an additional count of obstructing a peace officer through the District Attorney’s Office. Stockton was booked into the Plumas County Jail on charges including armed possession of a controlled substance and carrying a loaded firearm in a public space.

Investigators have processed the seized evidence, and the complete case file is slated for review by the District Attorney to determine formal prosecution steps.
