Grand Jury Indicts Joshua Martinez in 2019 Disappearance of Victoria Marquina

AMADOR, CA — On March 16, 2026, the Amador County District Attorney’s Office announced the indictment of 28 year old Joshua Martinez of Livingston in connection with the 2019 disappearance of 16-year-old Victoria Marquina of Sutter Creek. A grand jury has charged Martinez with murder and various sexual offenses. At the time of the disappearance, Martinez was 21 years old and was reportedly in an unlawful dating relationship with Marquina, who was last seen in San Joaquin County.

The indictment follows an investigation led by San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office Investigator Eduardo Rodriguez, with support from the Amador County District Attorney and the Amador County Sheriff’s Office. Evidence gathered during the investigation indicated that Marquina was the victim of a homicide occurring outside of Amador County. In February 2026, the Amador County District Attorney’s Office authorized prosecution in San Joaquin County, citing jurisdictional law under Penal Code sections 781 and 784.7(a).

Amador County District Attorney Todd Riebe assigned Chief Assistant District Attorney Caitlin Casey and office investigators to assist in presenting the case to a criminal grand jury in Stockton. The grand jury subsequently returned a true bill of indictment. Riebe noted the complexity of the multi-jurisdictional case and stated that the office remains committed to working with partner agencies to pursue legal outcomes for victims from Amador County.

The Amador County District Attorney’s Office recognized the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office and its Bureau of Investigations, the Amador County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Department of Justice’s Violent Crime Investigative Support Section for their work on the investigation since 2019.

Martinez’s next court appearance is set for 8:30 a.m. on April 6, 2026, in Stockton Superior Court, Department C.
