Oakland Resident Arrested Following Aggravated Assault in the Tenderloin

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – San Francisco Police Department officers arrested a 31-year-old Oakland man on March 16, 2026, following an observed incident in the Tenderloin district. At approximately 8:06 a.m., officers patrolling the vicinity of 7th and Market streets witnessed what appeared to be an aggravated assault.

Upon reaching the scene, officers detained a male subject who was attempting to depart the area. A second group of officers located an adult female victim on the ground. The victim had sustained injuries described by authorities as life-threatening. Officers provided initial aid before paramedics arrived to transport the individual to a local hospital for further medical treatment.

The suspect has been identified as Cole Wright. Following an on-scene investigation, officers established probable cause to take Wright into custody. He was subsequently transported to San Francisco County Jail and booked on charges including aggravated assault (245(a)(4) PC) and battery causing serious bodily injury (243(d) PC). Additionally, authorities processed Wright for three active out-of-county warrants.

Police Chief Derrick Lew issued a statement following the arrest, noting that the department does not tolerate such violence and commending the patrol officers for their work in the case. The SFPD has designated this as case #260-147-733. While a suspect is in custody, the investigation remains open and active.
