Long Beach Men Sentenced in 2021 Downtown Kidnapping and Sexual Assault Case
HUNGINTON BEACH, CA-Two men from Long Beach have been sentenced to prison terms in connection with a 2021 kidnapping and sexual assault in the downtown area. The legal proceedings concluded following an investigation by the Major Crimes Unit into an incident that occurred shortly after midnight on June 6, 2021.
According to police reports, an adult female victim was kidnapped and assaulted by two male strangers before being released in the vicinity of Pacific Coast Highway and Warner Avenue. Patrol officers and crime scene investigators collected statements, physical evidence, and video surveillance from the scene. On June 9, 2021, detectives identified the suspects as Angel Lopezevaristo and Florentino Contreras Bacilio. Both individuals were subsequently taken into custody.
On November 22, 2024, Lopezevaristo, 34, entered a guilty plea to charges including kidnapping to commit rape, rape in concert, and sexual penetration by a foreign object. He also faced eight sentencing enhancements and received a sentence of 30 years-to-life in state prison.
Following a two-week jury trial, Bacilio, 52, was found guilty of kidnapping to commit sexual assault and two counts of attempted sexual assault by force on February 23, 2026. On Friday, March 13, 2026, he was sentenced to 15 years-to-life in prison.
