Visalia Police Identify Suspect in 2022 Cold Case Homicide

VISALIA, CA – The Visalia Police Department has identified a suspect in a cold case homicide investigation following a multi-year inquiry into the death of 40-year-old Juan Carlos Viera. On January 24, 2022, at approximately 8:19 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of East Houston Avenue after receiving reports of a male who had been shot. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located Viera in the front yard of a residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He subsequently died from his injuries.

Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit initiated a homicide investigation at the time of the incident. In 2026, the unit conducted additional follow-up investigations that led to the identification of 27-year-old Isael Reynoso as a suspect in the case. The investigation was submitted to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office, which has since filed homicide and gang-related charges against Reynoso.

According to department records, Reynoso is currently incarcerated within the California State Prison system for crimes unrelated to the 2022 homicide. Law enforcement officials indicated that the investigation remains active and ongoing, as they believe additional subjects were involved in the incident.
