Britney Spears Arrested on Suspicion of Driving Under The Influence
NEWBURY PARK, CA — Britney Spears was arrested on the evening of Wednesday 03/04/2026 on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The California Highway Patrol reported receiving a notification at approximately 9 p.m. regarding a black BMW 430i traveling at high speeds and driving erratically on U.S. 101 in Newbury Park.
Spears, 44, was the reportedly the sole occupant of the vehicle. According to a CHP statement, she exited the freeway, pulled over, and underwent field sobriety tests after appearing impaired. She was booked into a Ventura County jail early Thursday morning and released around 6 a.m. Chemical test results are currently pending as the investigation continues.
A representative for Spears issued a statement calling the incident inexcusable and noting that Spears intends to comply with the law. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office will now determine if formal charges will be filed. Spears, who rose to global prominence in the late 1990s and recently released a memoir following the 2021 dissolution of her long-term conservatorship, has a court date scheduled for May 4.
