LAYTONVILLE, CA — A Mendocino County man was arrested after allegedly approaching another man in his driveway and trying to shoot him, then trying to evade the responding authorities.
At around noon on Friday, Feb. 13, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 11700 block of Branscomb Road for a report of shots fired. The reporting person told dispatch that the suspect had shot at an elderly man, and that the victim’s head had been grazed by a bullet before Langenderfer fled the scene.
Authorities identified the suspect as Brandon Lee Langenderfer, 32.
Medical personnel rendered first aid and confirmed the victim sustained a superficial wound. The victim was examined and treated at the scene, and deputies initiated an attempted-murder investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the investigation, deputies reportedly learned that Langenderfer walked up to the victim’s property while the victim was outside his residence. Investigators allege that Langenderfer produced a firearm, pointed it at the victim, and discharged the weapon.
The victim ran for safety and Langenderfer fled on foot into a wooded area, authorities said.
Deputies also learned of a vehicle associated with Langenderfer and, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, searched the area. At about 4 p.m., a Cal Fire prevention law enforcement officer observed the vehicle on the 6900 block of Branscomb Road.
Deputies responded and contained the area, issuing multiple verbal commands for Langenderfer to surrender, to which he reportedly did not respond.
Using a UAV and deputies searching on foot, authorities reportedly located Langenderfer hiding in brush along with a second individual, whom they identified as Miranda Marie Mullins, 32, of Willits. Both were detained without incident.
Langenderfer was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance with prior convictions, violation of parole, resisting, delaying or obstructing law enforcement, and a felony warrant for violating state parole. He was booked into the Mendocino County Jail and is being held on a no-bail status due to parole violations.
Mullins was arrested on suspicion of resisting, delaying or obstructing law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia, and an out-of-state arrest warrant. She was booked into the Mendocino County jail and is being held on a no-bail status due to outstanding charges and the warrant.
