San Luis Obispo Man Arrested Following SWAT Activation

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – On Friday, February 6, 2026, officers with the San Luis Obispo Police Department were dispatched to an apartment located in the 900 block of Monterey Street following a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a 65-year-old female victim who had sustained a significant injury to her arm. According to department records, the injury was consistent with being struck by a straight-edged object. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital to receive medical care.

An investigation conducted by detectives determined that the victim was allegedly injured by her partner, 54-year-old Matthew Dylan Jones. Officials stated that Jones resided at the apartment but had fled the scene before officers arrived on Friday. On Saturday, February 7, 2026, officers returned to the residence to contact the victim and discovered that Jones was back inside the apartment. Jones reportedly refused to open the door and became uncooperative, eventually ceasing communication with officers despite multiple attempts to reach him by telephone.

Due to the nature of the initial report, the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team was activated. On Sunday, February 8, 2026, at approximately 8:21 a.m., Jones was taken into custody without further incident. He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. His bail has been set at $50,000. Authorities noted that resources for survivors of intimate partner violence are available through the Lumina Alliance.
