Tuolumne County Authorities Arrest Suspect for Alleged Fentanyl Sales
JAMESTOWN, CA — JANUARY 30TH 2026
“The Tuolumne Narcotics Team (TNT) has been conducting a long-term investigation into David Junior Castanon, who operates under the alias “Rico Smoove”, for the transportation and sales of Fentanyl within Tuolumne County. Through their investigation, TNT Agents gathered evidence and obtained a search warrant.
On the evening of 1/29/26, TNT Agents conducted a traffic stop of Castanon’s vehicle on La Grange Rd, near Green Springs Rd in Jamestown. TNT Agents detained the driver, Castanon, as well as the passenger, Laureen Michelle Gammon. During the service of the search warrant on the vehicle, TNT Agents located approximately locate just over 8 grams of suspected fentanyl, a digital scale, drug packaging material, and just over $2,200.00 in cash.
Through investigation, TNT Agents determined Castanon was returning to Tuolumne County from the Bay Area and believed he had concealed additional quantities of fentanyl in a remote location in Oakdale. TNT Agents responded to the area and discovered an additional ounce (28.5 grams) in that location. In total, Castanon transported approximately 36 grams of fentanyl which he had purchased in the San Francisco Bay Area.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Castanon was placed under arrest for the following charges:
H&S 11351: Possession of Fentanyl for sale
H&S 11352: Transportation of Fentanyl for sale
H&S 11352(B): Transportation of Fentanyl across multiple counties for sale
H&S 11395: Possession of narcotics/drugs with two prior convictions
CVC 14601.1(a): Driving with a suspended/revoked driver’s license
If convicted, Castanon qualifies for a 3-year sentencing enhancement under Prop 36 Health and Safety Code 11370.4 for possessing and transporting over 28.5 grams of fentanyl.
Gammon was determined to be in possession of approximately 0.3 grams of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. She was placed under arrest for the following charges:
H&S 11364: Possession of drug paraphernalia
H&S 11350: Possession of fentanyl”
