Visalia Resident Arrested Following Hammer Assault and Brief Police Pursuit
VISALIA, CA — Officers from the Visalia Police Department responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1700 block of South Central Street at approximately 4:40 a.m. on the morning of Thursday January 29th. Upon arrival at the residence, authorities determined that an incident had occurred between two roommates.
As officers reached the area, they observed the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Luis Rocha, leaving the location in a vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated, resulting in a brief pursuit before Rocha pulled the vehicle over. He was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.
The investigation revealed that the victim had been struck in the head multiple times with a hammer. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to Kaweah Health Medical Center for treatment. According to the department, the victim is currently listed in stable condition.
The Visalia Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene to assume the investigation. Following the initial inquiry, Rocha was transported to the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Detention Facility. He has been booked on charges of attempted murder under California Penal Code sections 664/187.
