Kelseyville Resident Charged with First-Degree Murder Following Death of Assault Victim
KELSEYVILLE, CA – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the death of 44-year-old Ayano Bonson following an incident in Kelseyville that occurred on January 16, 2026. According to official reports, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a call at approximately 8:00 a.m. from Travis Bonson, 45, who reported that he had physically assaulted an adult female at a residence located in the 5900 block of Single Spring Drive.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies located the victim, who was subsequently transported to an out-of-county hospital for medical treatment. At the time of the initial report, she was listed in critical condition. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit responded to the location and took Travis Bonson into custody. He was initially booked on felony charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
On January 20, 2026, the victim succumbed to her injuries. Following her death, authorities amended the charges against Travis Bonson to include first-degree murder. Bonson, a resident of Kelseyville, remains in custody and is currently being held without bail.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office stated that while law enforcement remained active in the area during the initial stages of the response, there was no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
