Community, Compassion, and Teamwork in Action

“Early in the morning of January 26, an unknown adult male trespassed onto school grounds and stole a juvenile’s mountain bike that had been secured inside a bike cage. The juvenile was devastated when informed about the theft. His father shared that the bike is something he rides every day when he’s not in school.

School Resource Officer Stanton began the investigation, patrol officers kept an eye out throughout the city, and our community stepped up by providing tips, possible sightings, and video to assist.

Officers located the suspect riding the bike near Auburn Folsom Road and Sacramento Street. When officers attempted to detain him, he fled briefly before giving up and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, identified as Michael David Kelley, 43, a transient from Galt, was arrested on multiple charges, including obstruction, possession of controlled substance and evading. He was booked into the Placer County Jail.

The best part of the day came afterward—SRO Stanton was able to return the bike, safe and intact, to the juvenile’s father, who was ecstatic.

This was a true team effort involving our SRO, patrol staff, and a community that cares.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.”
