Sutter County Deputies Arrest Suspect Following Reports of Gunfire in Yuba City
YUBA CITY, CA — Sutter County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a suspect on January 18, 2026, following reports of gunfire in Yuba City. The incident began when a deputy patrolling the area of South Walton Avenue and Richland Road reported hearing approximately four to five gunshots. Responding deputies conducted an area check and reported hearing additional shots fired. During this time, dispatch received several 911 calls from individuals reporting the gunfire and identifying potential victims.
The investigation led deputies to the 1600 block of Stoker Avenue, where they contacted the occupants of two vehicles parked in front of a residence. Upon inspection, deputies located fresh shell casings near one of the vehicles. A subsequent consent search of that vehicle revealed additional shell casings inside that matched the ones found on the ground. A presumptive gunshot residue (GSR) test was administered to the driver, identified as 46-year-old Rosendo Ramirez, which indicated the presence of GSR on his hand.
While seven .40-caliber shell casings were recovered, no firearm was initially found in the vehicles. Detectives later obtained a search warrant for the residence, where they located a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield .40-caliber firearm with an empty magazine and a box of matching ammunition. Ramirez was booked into the Sutter County Jail on charges including negligent discharge of a firearm. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
