Shasta County Inmate Allegedly Tried to Escape While in Hospital, According to Sheriff’s Office

SHASTA COUNTY, CA — “On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at approximately 2:40 PM, while in his assigned housing unit, an inmate at the Shasta County Jail jumped from the upper tier landing feet first on the lower level. The inmate, identified as 26-year-old Jordan David Lee Moore, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Medical staff provided immediate first aid until Moore could be transported via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

While awaiting treatment at the hospital, Moore became noncompliant and attempted to escape, while assaulting and violently resisting the two correctional deputies who were assigned to guard him. Moore told the correctional deputies to shoot him while he was resisting. Officers from the Redding Police Department and hospital security responded to assist. After a brief struggle Moore was apprehended and brought under control. Neither the correctional deputies, nor Moore were injured during the altercation.

After receiving treatment for his initial injuries, Moore was returned to the Shasta County Jail. Moore later admitted he was trying to escape.

As a result of the incident, in addition to the charges he was originally in custody for, Moore will face additional charges of 243(b) Assault on a Peace Officer, 69(a) Resist an Executive Officer by Force/Intimidation, and 4532(a)(2) Attempt Escape from Custody.”
