BARSTOW, CA — Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Barstow Area recovered an embezzled vehicle and seized multiple firearms following a traffic stop on January 13, 2026. The incident began when law enforcement received a report regarding a white Buick SUV traveling southbound on Interstate 15. The vehicle had been identified as embezzled prior to entering the Barstow Area.
Patrol officers located the SUV and initiated a traffic stop to conduct an investigation. During the subsequent search of the vehicle, officers discovered three concealed firearms. According to department reports, one of the firearms was loaded at the time of the discovery. Additionally, officers located three magazines, one of which was identified as an extended magazine.
The male driver was taken into custody and booked into jail on several charges, including 496 PC, 25400 PC, and 32310 PC. The Buick SUV was recovered by officers and has since been returned to its owner. The firearms and magazines were seized as evidence. This enforcement action is part of ongoing efforts by the CHP Barstow Area to address property crime and regulate the transport of firearms on public roadways.
