Palm Springs Resident Arrested for Attempted Murder Following CV Link Trail Stabbing
PALM SPRINGS, CA — Palm Springs Police Department officers have arrested a 53-year-old man in connection with a stabbing that took place on the CV Link trail on December 31, 2025. The suspect, identified as Jacob Masters of Palm Springs, was taken into custody on Sunday, January 11, 2026, following a brief pursuit.
The initial report was filed at approximately 2:40 p.m. on the day of the incident. The victim, an adult male, stated that the assault occurred around 11:30 a.m. while he was walking along the trail between Golf Club Drive and Cathedral Canyon Drive. According to the victim’s statement, he made eye contact with a man on the trail and encountered him again 15 minutes later. The suspect reportedly donned a ski mask, shouted profanities, and assaulted the victim, knocking him to the ground. After a physical altercation, the suspect fled on foot, and the victim discovered he had been stabbed. The victim received medical treatment at a local hospital and was subsequently released.
On January 11, officers located Masters in the 5600 block of E. Ramon Road. After attempting to flee, he was apprehended near the CV Link trail by the Cimarron Golf Course. Masters was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on charges of attempted murder and resisting an officer.
Investigators describe the event as an unprovoked attack, noting that no property was demanded. The motive for the incident remains under investigation.
