Man Suspected of Drug Sales Allegedly Caught with a Quarter Pound of Meth During Traffic Stop

TUOLUMNE COUNTY, CA — “In November of last year, the Tuolumne Narcotics Team (TNT) began an investigation into 59-year-old Steven Jeffrey Diaz related to the sales of methamphetamine throughout Tuolumne County.

Through their investigation, TNT Detectives obtained a search warrant for Diaz’s vehicle and property. On the evening of January 2, 2026 TNT Detectives conducted a traffic stop of Diaz along Highway 108 in East Sonora. During the traffic stop, TNT Detectives detained Diaz and informed him of the warrant. During a search of Diaz detectives found a bag containing approximately a quarter pound of methamphetamine inside of his jacket pocket. A record check of Diaz found he had two or more prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance. During a search of Diaz’s residence TNT Detectives found drug use paraphernalia and additional items consistent with drug sales.

Diaz was arrested and transported to the Dambacher Detention Center where he was booked on multiple charges related to the sale and possession of a controlled substance.”
