Shasta County Authorities Arrest Two in Connection with Theft of $30K Worth of PG&E Equipment
BURNEY, CA — Two people have been arrested in Shasta County for the alleged theft of $30,000 worth of PG&E equipment.
According to a press release by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of burglary at a PG&E equipment yard on Thursday, Dec. 4, from which “a large number” of tools and equipment had allegedly been stolen.
Deputies quickly identified the primary suspect as 42-year-old Tyson Noah Courtney of Burney, the sheriff’s office said.
On Friday, Dec. 5. deputies pulled Courtney over and conducted a search of his vehicle, reportedly discovering spools of unopened wire. Using tracking numbers on the wire, deputies worked with representatives from PG&E to trace their origin to a Sierra Pacific Industries mill in Burney.
Sierra Pacific Industries is Courtney’s employer, according to the sheriff’s office.
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, Dec. 9, deputies carried out a search warrant at Courtney’s residence, where they located a “large amount” of wire and tools allegedly stolen from PG&E. Courtney was taken into custody without incident.
During the search, authorities reportedly identified a second suspect in the PG&E burglary as 40-year-old Adam Daniel Zamora of Burney. Upon a search of Zamora’s property, deputies recovered more items stolen from PG&E, along with wire, ammunition, and rifle — the latter two of which Zamora is prohibited from owning, according to the sheriff’s office.
Courtney was ultimately booked into the Shasta County jail on suspicion of the possession of narcotics with prior conviction, possession of methamphetamine, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft with priors.
Zamora was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
