A late-night party in the Nyeland Acres area of unincorporated Oxnard erupted in gunfire just
before midnight on November 25.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Gabriel Gonzalez, deputies
from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Headquarters Patrol Station and Camarillo Patrol Services
were sent to a “shots fired” call in the neighborhood.

When they arrived, deputies found evidence confirming that “multiple rounds had been fired at people” attending a social gathering.
“No injuries were reported.”

As deputies worked the scene, they received information about a vehicle that had sped away after
the gunfire. A short time later, deputies located that vehicle in Camarillo and stopped it. Inside
were five juveniles and an adult identified as Martin Maidaa, 18, of Camarillo. A search turned
up “a loaded high-power rifle.”

Detectives from the West County Special Enforcement Unit and Headquarters Station joined the
case, learning that a juvenile at the party had “allegedly fired numerous rounds toward a group of
partygoers before fleeing.”

Detectives later obtained several search warrants and reported finding
additional evidence tying Maidaa and a juvenile suspect to the shooting.

Maidaa and four juvenile suspects were taken into custody and transported to Ventura County
Jail, where they were booked on charges of being accessories after the fact.

The four juveniles were cited and released to their parents. A fifth juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center
on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling and multiple
firearms offenses.
