Watsonville Police Chief Apprehends Fleeing Gang Member After Pursuit
WATSONVILLE, CA — The Watsonville Police Department has reported the arrest of a gang member following a brief pursuit involving the Chief of Police, David Rodriguez.
The incident began shortly after 5:00 PM on Wednesday November 26th in the vicinity of Waters Alley and Madison Street when a Watsonville Officer attempted to engage with a group identified as gang members. One individual, Issac Sigala, 18, fled the scene on foot. Sigala’s evasion route involved jumping a fence, accessing a rooftop, and continuing across multiple fences in an attempt to escape law enforcement contact.
Chief Rodriguez, who was in the area and monitoring police radio communications regarding the pursuit, observed Sigala. The Chief then initiated a foot pursuit and successfully apprehended Sigala. The arrest took place near a carwash located on the 400 block of East Lake Avenue.
Following the arrest, officers searched Sigala’s backpack. The search yielded an unserialized, short-barreled AR-pistol equipped with a high-capacity magazine. Additionally, the backpack contained 38 unspent rounds of ammunition and 54 grams of marijuana.
Sigala was taken into custody and now faces multiple felony charges; these include, but are not limited to, charges related to illegal firearm possession, participation in a criminal street gang, and probation violation.
