Man on Parole Arrested for Alleged Possession of Semi-Automatic Handgun
REDDING, CA — “On Friday, November 21, 2025, at about 7:30 p.m., a Redding Police officer conducted a traffic stop near Eureka Way and California Street after observing a Cadillac with a broken taillight and erratic driving behavior.
The driver, identified as Michael Johns (36) of Redding, displayed signs of extreme nervousness and was found to be on parole for a firearm-related offense. During the stop, Johns refused to comply with the officers’ commands. What appeared to be a semiautomatic handgun was observed in the driver’s door pocket, within immediate reach.
Officers forcibly removed Johns from the vehicle using control holds and safely took him into custody before he could access the weapon. A search of the vehicle revealed a replica firearm in the driver’s door pocket and an SKS rifle in the backseat.
Johns was transported to the Shasta County Jail, where a parole hold was authorized. He was booked on several fresh charges, including a felony firearms-related charge for possession of the SKS rifle. The replica firearm and SKS rifle were seized and booked into evidence.”
