Three Arrested on Burglary, Conspiracy Charges Following Chase Near Grass Valley School
GRASS VALLEY, CA — Law enforcement officials in Nevada County apprehended three individuals following a reported daytime residential burglary near Clear Creek Elementary School on November 7, 2025. The incident began at approximately 11:45 a.m. when Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) deputies were dispatched to a property on Clear Creek Place in response to a burglary in progress.
Upon the arrival of NCSO deputies, three subjects began to flee the residence on foot. A female suspect was detained quickly at the scene. Two male suspects continued to evade officers, prompting a coordinated search effort. Additional NCSO deputies, along with assistance from the California Highway Patrol’s ground and air support, established a perimeter in the area.
NCSO Sheriff K9 Vito and his handler, Deputy King, tracked the two remaining suspects into a densely wooded location. The individuals were discovered hiding and initially refused orders to surrender to deputies. K9 Vito was then deployed, successfully apprehending one of the male suspects. This action resulted in the final suspect surrendering without further resistance.
During the subsequent investigation, a stolen ATV key belonging to a victim’s vehicle was reportedly found in the possession of one of the suspects. Furthermore, a vehicle associated with the suspects, which was parked nearby, was found to contain additional property, including several sets of “shaved keys,” items known to be used in auto theft operations.
Haley Koen, 26, of Penn Valley, Antonio Medina, 37, and Jamie Esquivel, 54, were arrested in connection with the incident. All three were booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. They face charges of Burglary, Conspiracy, and Resisting Arrest. The current residence locations of Medina and Esquivel are pending further investigation.
