Sonora Man Arrested for Alleged Possession of Methamphetamine, Fixed-Blade Knife
SONORA, CA — “On 11/05/2025, at 11:19 p.m., officers with the Sonora Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Tahoe near Old Wards Ferry Road for an equipment violation. Officers identified the male driver as 46-year-old Gregory Vincent Backus. Backus was found to have a concealed fixed-bladed knife on his person and was uncooperative during the arrest.
K9 Officer Watson and his partner, Ridge, did a narcotic sniff on the vehicle. K9 Ridge alerted to narcotics, and a search uncovered 2.57 ounces of suspected methamphetamine.
Backus was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and was booked for Felony Concealed dirk or dagger, possession of controlled substance for sale, Felony transport of controlled substance, obstruction, and driving with knowledge of a suspended license.
