Suspect Arrested in Santa Cruz Shooting Investigation, Victim in Critical Condition
SANTA CRUZ, CA – The Santa Cruz Police Department (SCPD) is conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred late Saturday evening, October 25, 2025, in the vicinity of Beach Street and Raymond Street.
SCPD officers were dispatched to the location at approximately 10:48 p.m. following initial reports of a shooting. Upon securing the scene, officers conducted an area canvass and collected evidence related to the event. Detectives subsequently arrived and took charge of the active investigation. One adult victim sustained injuries in the incident and was transported to a local trauma center, where they were listed in critical condition.
On the following day, Sunday, October 26, 2025, at approximately 1:16 p.m., police arrested a suspect in connection with the case. The SCPD, working with the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team (SCCACT) and the Seaside Security Company, identified and apprehended Miguel Casteneda Patino. The arrest was made within the County of Santa Cruz and is related to an attempted murder investigation.
