Yuba County Correctional Officer Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Inmate
MARYSVILLE, CA — “On October 3, 2025, a female inmate housed at the Yuba County Jail reported to staff that she had been sexually assaulted by a Yuba County Correctional Officer. The Sheriff’s Office immediately launched a criminal investigation into the allegations.
The investigation determined that Correctional Officer Matthew Babb, employed with the Yuba County Jail since July 2020, had removed the inmate from her housing unit under the pretense of a medical appointment. Instead, Babb transported the inmate off jail grounds to a location in Olivehurst, where the alleged sexual misconduct occurred.
Evidence gathered during the investigation, including surveillance footage and witness statements, confirmed that Babb transported the inmate to multiple locations prior to and following the incident.
‘This conduct is unacceptable, and a betrayal of the trust placed in our office and our correctional staff,’ said Sheriff Anderson. ‘The safety and dignity of those in our custody is a top priority, and we are committed to full transparency and accountability in this matter.’
Babb was booked into the Placer County Jail for 289.6(a)(2) and has been placed on administrative leave. The case will be forwarded to the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution.”
