Three Arrested After Target Shooting Near Hikers on Parker Lake Trail in Mono County
JUNE LAKE, CA — Mono County authorities arrested three individuals on September 25, 2025, following reports of gunfire near Parker Lake Trail. At approximately 1:50 p.m., Mono County Dispatch received several calls from hikers stating that shots were being fired in their direction. According to officials, dispatchers could hear gunfire over the phone during one of the calls.
Deputies responded to the area, treating the situation as a potential active shooter incident. Moving toward the sound of gunfire, they located three people north of the trail engaged in target shooting. The individuals stopped shooting and complied with deputies’ instructions.
Several hikers were interviewed as they exited the trail. Many reported hearing multiple gunshots and said they could feel and hear bullets pass overhead. Some described taking cover behind trees and rocks until the shooting stopped. No injuries were reported, but officials stated the hikers were placed at significant risk.
The three suspects, all identified as residents of Southern California, were arrested and booked into the Mono County Jail. They face initial felony charges of willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.
Law enforcement agencies assisting at the scene included the California Highway Patrol, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, and the Mammoth Lakes Police Department. Authorities confirmed the area was secured and declared safe later in the day.
