Eureka Man Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Woman He’d Offered Ride To
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA — A Eureka man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman who’d been in his vehicle under the pretense of being offered a ride.
According to a press release by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, investigators have identified the suspect as 56-year-old Amos Lee Nuckols, an employee of a local transit company.
Deputies met with the victim early on the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 20, and took a report of the alleged assault, which the victim stated had happened earlier that morning in the Loleta area.
Authorities say Nuckols was driving with a client in the area of Little Fairfield Street in Eureka when they came upon the victim sitting on the side of the road. Nuckols allegedly offered the victim a ride, which she accepted.
After dropping his client off in the Ferndale area, Nuckols then allegedly drove the victim to a secluded area in Loleta and sexually assaulted her.
Authorities requested an advocate from the North Coast Rape Crisis team to accompany the victim to an area hospital. The victim was reportedly treated and provided resources for victims of sexual violence.
Deputies ultimately arrested Nuckols and booked him at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on suspicion of assault with intent to commit a specified felon and sexual assault.
