DUI Suspect Allegedly Caught with Hard Drugs and Stolen Gun in Sonoma County
SANTA ROSA, CA — “On Monday, September 22, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) officer was patrolling the area of Stony Point Road and Yuba Drive when he observed an Acura sedan make a wide turn onto eastbound Yuba Drive, crossing into oncoming traffic. The officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop near Big Horn Sheep Street, and asked the driver, identified as 34-year-old Johnnie Daniels of Santa Rosa, to participate in a series of field sobriety tests (FSTs).
Prior to beginning the FSTs, the officer located a folding knife in Daniels’s right front pants pocket. Upon removing the knife from Daniels’s pants, a small plastic baggie commonly used to package illegal narcotics fell out of his pocket. Located in Daniels’s left front pocket was another baggie containing a white powdery substance the officer believed to be cocaine. The officer then detained Daniels in handcuffs to further investigate the narcotics possession which included a search of Daniels’s vehicle.
Behind the rear passenger seat, the officer located a satchel which contained a large drum magazine loaded with .380 ACP ammunition, an unloaded 9mm magazine, and two additional plastic baggies containing suspected cocaine. In the center console, the officer located a loaded Glock 42 handgun. The firearm was reported stolen out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Daniels, a convicted felon, is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition. Based on the packaging and the total package weight (4.9 grams) of the suspected cocaine, the officer believed it was Daniels’s intent to sell the narcotics.
Daniels was arrested and booked into jail for the following offenses:
29800(a)(1) PC – Felon in possession of a firearm
30305(a)(1) PC – Felon in possession of ammunition
