– by Jim Emerson
ANTIOCH, CA — A driver and passenger arrested at a sideshow earlier this month find themselves in
bigger trouble—for carrying a loaded firearm.
Jose Martinez, 31, of Antioch, and Brian Avina, 27 of
Brentwood, were arrested near the Antioch Municipal Marina.
No one was launching a boat at the marina on September 7 at 11:25 p.m. There was a noisy
commotion in progress on the delta waterfront.
Martinez was allegedly driving recklessly in circles, generating clouds of pungent smoke from overheating tires.
Antioch police responding to the foolishness could hear tires screeching as they arrived on the scene.
Next the officers observed a car with its engine revving and spinning in circles.
Martinez was allegedly the driver “making doughnuts” with the Lexus, and Avina was his passenger.
Martinez allegedly attempted to flee from the area as the police approached. However, the officers
safely stopped the car, and detained both men.
Inside the car, officers found a loaded firearm. Martinez and Avina were each placed under arrest. The
vehicle was towed and impounded to complete their driving adventure at the city marina.
