Registered Sex Offender Arrested for Alleged Sexual Battery & Assault in Palermo
PALERMO, CA — “On August 18, 2025, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were patrolling the vicinity of Railroad Avenue and Palermo Road when they observed a truck trespassing on private property. Upon approaching the truck, the officers identified two occupants in the back seat.
The CHP officers promptly approached the truck and contacted a male subject, later identified as Gerardo Carrasco, age 50, of Chico. A records check revealed that Carrasco is on active California State Parole and is required to register as a sex offender pursuant to California Penal Code Section 290. A second individual, later determined to be a victim was also contacted.
As the officers commenced their investigation, they located evidence leading them to believe that Carrasco had sexually assaulted the victim. Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies and detectives were notified and responded to the scene. Carrasco was subsequently arrested for violating the terms and conditions of his parole.
BCSO detectives assumed control of the investigation and conducted an extensive investigation. During the course of the investigation, additional evidence was uncovered, corroborating that Carrasco had sexually assaulted the victim.
Carrasco was booked into the Butte County Jail on the following felony charges:
- Assault with intent to commit rape
- Sexual battery
- False imprisonment
