Santa Cruz Police Arrest Suspect in Felony Hit-and-Run

SANTA CRUZ, CA  — 08/06/2025  — “The Santa Cruz Police Department (SCPD) and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident at the intersection of SR1 & River Street at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025. A vehicle traveling northbound on SR1 at the intersection of River Street, collided into 42 year-old pedestrian who was crossing the roadway in a marked crosswalk. The pedestrian sustained severe non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby trauma center.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the accident. SCPD Traffic Investigators initiated a comprehensive investigation. The officers diligently processed evidence, interviewed witnesses, and reviewed several County wide Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPRs). Officers were able to identify the suspect vehicle utilizing several ALPRs throughout the County. Officers located the suspect driver at his home in Watsonville, CA the next day and he was taken into custody without incident.

Charges: 20001(a) California Vehicle Code – Felony Hit & Run resulting in injury, 14601.2 (a) California Vehicle Code – Driving with a suspended license
