San Bernardino County Deputy Arrested on Felony Extortion and Bribery Charges

HESPERIA, CA – A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested on suspicion of felony charges stemming from an on-duty criminal conduct investigation that began in 2024.

According to a press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, a citizen complaint alleging on-duty criminal conduct by Deputy Cameron Romo was received in June 2024. Romo, 27, a resident of Rialto, was immediately placed on administrative leave while the department’s Specialized Investigations Division conducted an inquiry into the allegations.

Investigators determined that Romo allegedly conducted multiple criminal acts while on-duty as a Deputy Sheriff, assigned to the Hesperia Station. Romo has been employed by the Sheriff’s Department since September 2020 and was assigned to the Hesperia Station in August 2021.

The completed investigation was submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office. On Monday, August 4, 2025, the District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges of extortion and soliciting a bribe against Romo, and an arrest warrant was issued.

Romo was placed on compulsory leave and arrested by investigators on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m. He was subsequently booked into the Central Detention Center in lieu of $90,000 bail.

Sheriff-Coroner Shannon Dicus issued a statement saying, “This is unfortunate that a Deputy Sheriff would engage in this type of behavior. I am proud of all the investigators involved in bringing this case to the District Attorney’s Office so he can be held accountable.”

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Antonio Alcala of the Specialized Investigations Division. Callers can also remain anonymous by contacting We-Tip.
