Hollister Police Recover Two Stolen Vehicles During Early Morning Arrest
HOLLISTER, CA — A San Jose resident was recently arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and other charges, thanks to a report from a community member.
In the early morning of July 27, 2025, at approximately 2:57 a.m., Hollister Police Department deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of Verona Place. An alert resident had reported observing a man break into a parked vehicle, drive it a short distance, and then park again. The resident followed the suspect at a distance and contacted police.
Deputies Provost and Baugher arrived within minutes and located the suspect inside the vehicle. Officers quickly determined the vehicle had been stolen. They also found bags containing theft tools inside the car.
Further investigation led officers to discover a second vehicle, registered out of Sunnyvale, parked in front of the stolen car. After contacting the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, officials confirmed the second vehicle was also an unreported stolen vehicle.
The suspect, identified as Joseph Moreno, 24, of San Jose, was arrested without incident. Additional theft tools believed to be associated with Moreno were also recovered.
Moreno was transported to the San Benito County Jail and booked on charges including vehicle theft, carrying a concealed dagger, possession of burglary tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
