Two Arrested in Connection with Stabbing that Left Victim in Critical Condition

SUSANVILLE, CA — “On May 19, 2025, at approximately 1624 hours, Officers from the Susanville Police Department were dispatched to Banner Lassen Medical Center’s Emergency Room for a report of a stabbing victim currently in their facility. Upon arrival, Officers were notified the victim, who had been transported via private vehicle, had sustained life-threatening injuries and was in critical condition. Officers determined the primary crime scene was at a residence on the 1400 block of Fourth Street in the City of Susanville. The primary crime scene was immediately secured and processed. The vehicle utilized to transport the victim to the hospital was secured as evidence and processed at the Susanville Police Department.

During the investigation, officers were able to obtain surveillance footage of the area. Investigators determined there were two suspects, a male and a female, involved in the stabbing who fled the scene in a vehicle after the altercation. The female suspect, identified as 51-year-old Brenda Vasquez of Susanville, was located and taken into custody on May 23, 2025. The male suspect, identified as 42-year-old Edwin Oliva of Susanville, was located and taken into custody on June 11, 2025.

Both suspects are currently in custody at the Lassen County Adult Detention Facility pending prosecution for Attempted Murder and Residential Burglary.
