Citrus Heights Teacher Arrested on Suspicion of Annoying or Molesting a Minor
CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA — Augustine Sanchez, a 48-year-old teacher at Mesa Verde High School, was recently on suspicion of annoying or molesting a minor. The arrest followed an investigation by the Citrus Heights Police Department (CHPD) that began after a report was filed on March 6.
According to the Citrus Heights Police Department, the investigation identified six victims. An arrest warrant for Sanchez was issued, and he surrendered himself to the Sacramento County Jail. The investigation was reportedly completed and turned over to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office for charging. A search of Sacramento County Jail records performed on August 1st, do not show Sanchez as is custody at this time, however it is unclear whether he posted bail or was released on his own recognizance.
Sanchez has been an employee of the San Juan Unified School District since 2012. The district stated that he was placed on administrative leave earlier this year when “concerns were shared”. In a statement, the school district said that the “safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority” and that all employees undergo a background check. The district has also communicated with families at the school to inform them of available support for students.
At this time, CHPD does not believe there are any additional victims, but has encouraged anyone with further information about the case to contact their crime tip line at 916-727-5524.
The arraignment for Mr. Sanchez (Case No. 25MI014480) is currently scheduled for October 20th in Department 1.
